Commercial Generators

Commercial Generators

A commercial standby generator helps keep the power on for large homes and small-to-medium sized businesses. The Generator is installed on the exterior of your building and will power on automatically when it senses a utility power loss. Backup power onsite helps preserve quality of life and/or business operations during a power outage. A commercial generator comes in a variety of sizes ranging from 25kW to 150kW.

There are larger commercial generators that can meet the demands of large enterprises and full commercial buildings. These are known as industrial generators. Industrial generators are gaseous or diesel as their fuel source. Industrial generators require a specialty installer and we currently do not offer this service due to the scale of these projects. They range size from 80kW to 1,000kW.

Ideal industries that would use a commercial sized generator are:

  • Convenience stores & gas stations
  • Small schools & district buildings
  • Small banks & financial institutions
  • Small restaurants & bars
  • Offices with small server rooms
  • Larger homes or homes with guest houses

Commercial sized generators are fueled by propane or natural gas. Most businesses or large homes have access to a reliable natural gas source. However, if you do not have access to natural gas, you will need to install a propane tank large enough to fuel your generator if you don’t already have propane on site. If you need to install a propane tank, our generator estimate specialist can help you determine what size of tank you will need.

Sizing

Regardless if you are a homeowner or a small business owner, we recommend getting scheduled with one of our generators estimate specialists to make sure you have the coverage you want. When considering a commercial generator, we recommend you look at your peak power usage over the last 12 months. The peak usage every month will create a baseline for where you should start with your commercial generator sizing. You will want to have this information handy during your estimate.

If you are a residential customer, with an electric furnace or a larger home with considerable electric needs we may also recommend a commercial sized liquid cooled generator.  Depending on your power demands during an outage, we could also use a smaller air-cooled residential generator if you do not want to power your whole home. If you want to power your whole home, we will recommend a commercial sized generator to ensure your power needs are met during an outage.
